CUSTOMIZED Lover's Eye Jewelry– NECKLACE

$75.00

Lover’s Eye Jewelry was a fascinating trend most popular between the 1750s and the 1830s. It was a way to carry a portrait of a “zoomed in” part of your secret admirer’s appearance, subtle enough so that no one else would know who the portrait was of, i.e. whose eye it was.

This way you could have a romantic reminder when you were apart or had to be long-distance for many months, but it didn’t have to mean going public about your relationship status.

Lover’s Eyes were commonly embellished with tiny pearls, rubies, sapphires, and other gems.

My commissions will use gold-plated bezels, where I lay down a layer of clay (originally ivory was used), draw/paint the eye, seal it w/ a coat of resin, and decorate it with tiny (faux) pearls and jewels. I can make you a brooch, a pendant, clip-on earrings, or even collar clips.

Images 1-3 are extant historical brooches/pendants. Image 4 is a Georgian-era painting.

Images 5-8 are examples of my work (previous commissions).

Image 9 is backing options. Once commissioned we can discuss gem/pearl color.

If you commission a pendant, I will include a simple 20" gold-tone chain. Let me know if you'd like something different.
