    Silver Cast Ring

    (NFS)

    Sterling Silver.

Made to abstractly represent both the undulations of the Adirondack Mountains, and the waves found on a lake on a rough day. My first foray into casting silver; started with carving a model out of wax, making a "lost wax" caster mold, then filling with molten sterling silver.

I then took it through the steps of delicately sawing off the extraneous pieces, and sanding and polishing it until it was perfectly smooth but still had the slightly rustic look that I desired.

    Ganymede's Amphora

    (NFS)

Gold-plated chain, gold-plated amphora charm, blue mica powder, crushed glass, UV-curing resin, synthetic opal.

Since spending more time designing jewelry, I've been trying to incorporate my interests and inclinations from traditional 2-dimensional art studies into the jewelry I make. Here's an example of a piece that gives a nod to a Greek myth, while also being a beautiful dainty pendant with iridescent opal sparkles that catch the light.

    Dragonfly Earring

    (NFS)

Natural dragonfly wings, mixed metal earring clasps, synthetic opal, resin, mixed metal jump rings.

I enjoy incorporating found objects and materials into my art. I was able to salvage the front and back pairs of wings and preserve them. I made them into earrings by coating them by hand with multiple layers of UV-curing resin. To pay homage to the iridescent flashing colors of blue and green that had been present on the dragonfly's body (sadly unable to be preserved) I added synthetic opal-powder embedded in the resin by the tops of the wings.
